A reload is the act by which one either ejects an empty magazine from one's gun, inserts a new magazine and rechambers a bullet or by which one, in other cases, simply inserts new ammunition into the weapon.

However, there are some special cases within the game. While most weapons require the pulling back of the charging handle, some weapons, such as the M417, only require the insertion of a new magazine and the weapon is ready to fire again. This effect could only be achieved if there was still a round in the chamber, and to ensure the bolt is in a forward position, the reload would be completed by releasing the bolt catch or pressing a forward assist, if there is one. However, the reload animations of the guns featuring this style of reload does not show the character releasing the bolt.

The speed of a reload is affected by the magazine size.

Like other FPS games, the reload is very inaccurate compared to real life. Players can reload as much as they want ("X" times), and they will still have a full mag for each reload, even if they aren't carrying "X" number of magazines because the game is programmed to automatically allocate remaining ammunition into a fresh, new magazine. For example, players can reload their assault rifle fifty times and still have a full mag if they fire one shot and reload.
